Sand Driving Reminder for Fraser Island (K’gari) Beaches ๐๐๏ธ
Important: All beach driving on K’gari (Fraser Island) is soft sand โ 4WD only, no 2WD vehicles permitted. Deflate your tyres to 15โ18 PSI as soon as you leave the barge (use a reliable gauge and carry a compressor to re-inflate later). Road/highway tyres are not suitable โ you need all-terrain or mud-terrain tyres with strong sidewalls and aggressive tread, otherwise you will get bogged quickly. If youโre new to sand driving, this is not the place to learn โ the sand is deep, soft and very unforgiving, and getting stuck is extremely common (and often expensive to recover from). Strongly consider joining a guided 4WD tag-along tour or travelling with experienced friends. Always carry recovery gear (Maxtrax tracks/mats, shovel, snatch strap, etc.), check tide times religiously, and stay on designated beaches/tracks only. Safe driving = better surf sessions!
