The Strand Townsville is Townsville’s main 2.2km beachfront. You get a free rockpool, a free water park, patrolled nets, cafes and Magnetic Island views in one walkable strip. It is the easy city beach when you do not want the drive out to the Northern Beaches. Families use the free pools and the patrolled nets. Walkers stay for the palm-lined path and the Magnetic Island views.

Yes. The Strand Rockpool is a free stinger-resistant seawater lagoon at the northern end. Gentle entry for kids and wheelchairs. Closed every Wednesday for cleaning, except public holidays.

Are dogs allowed on The Strand?

On-leash on the promenade and grass only. Dogs are prohibited on the sand and in the water.

When are the stinger nets up?

North and south nets are in from November to May. In that season swim inside the nets or use The Strand Rockpool.

Can you swim at The Strand year-round?
