Deadmans Beach Stradbroke Island is the 600 metre north-facing cove at Point Lookout between Cylinder Beach and Frenchmans Beach, with golden sand, rock platforms and a variable surf zone. Deadmans Beach Point Lookout is unpatrolled, dog friendly Deadmans Beach access is on leash only, surfing Deadmans Beach works best on a larger wrapping swell, and Deadmans Beach facilities sit at the headland car park and walking tracks rather than on the sand.
🌅 Why Visit Deadmans Beach Stradbroke Island?
Deadmans Beach Stradbroke Island is the quieter north-facing cove at Deadmans Beach Point Lookout, between Cylinder Beach and Frenchmans Beach. Kangaroos and wallabies graze the reserve at sunrise, dolphins and turtles run the points year-round, and humpbacks pass offshore from June to November. Dog friendly Deadmans Beach access is on leash only, surfing Deadmans Beach works when a wrapping swell hits the banks, and Deadmans Beach facilities stay at the Cutter Street car park and walking tracks rather than on the sand.
👙Things to Do at Deadmans Beach
🐋 Whales June to November — humpbacks pass off Deadmans Beach Point Lookout. Watch from the reserve, not the wet rocks.
🦘 Kangaroos at the track — wallabies and kangaroos graze the headland at sunrise and dusk.
🐬 Dolphins and turtles — common off the points at Deadmans Beach Stradbroke Island year-round.
🪨 Rock pools and space — quieter than Cylinder Beach, with golden sand and rock shelves.
🐶 On-leash cove — dog friendly Deadmans Beach access is leash only. Off-leash is Home Beach.
🏄 Wrapping swell — surfing Deadmans Beach works when a larger swell bends around the headland.

🏖️ Deadmans Beach Stop

🐨 Point Lookout Wildlife Day — Full-day North Stradbroke tour. Brown Lake, North Gorge Walk and swim time at the cove next to Deadmans.
🏄 Surfing Deadmans Beach
🌊 Wave Type — Variable north-facing beachbreak. Surfing Deadmans Beach produces low right-handers on a wrapping swell over shifting bars, with rocks at both points and in the middle.
🌬️ Best Conditions — Easterly or south-east swell wrapping around Point Lookout. Around 1 m is the normal day.
👥 Crowd Level — Quieter alternative to Cylinder Beach. A local Point Lookout option, not a destination crowd magnet.
🎯 Ideal For — Intermediate to experienced surfers who can read a moving bank. Not a learner break once it is over about 1 m.
🛡️ Protection — More wrapped than exposed Frenchmans Beach.
⚠️ Safety — Unpatrolled. Rips, a trough off the sand and strong westerly drift appear on size.
🐶Dog Friendly Deadmans Beach
🐶 On leash at all times — dog friendly Deadmans Beach access is on a leash only. No off-leash section on this sand.
🚫 Not off-leash — do not let dogs run free here. Redland City Council’s Point Lookout off-leash beach is Home Beach, not Deadmans.
🏖️ Closest off-leash — Home Beach between Rocky Point and Rocky Headland, in front of The Straddie Hotel. About a 1 km stretch. Dogs can enter the water there.
⛴️ Ferry with a dog — SeaLink vehicle ferry: keep the dog inside the car. If the dog is outside the vehicle or on the passenger ferry, it must be on a lead and wearing a muzzle.
🛠️ Deadmans Beach Facilities
🅿️ Cutter Street car park — about 20 spaces at Deadmans Headland Reserve. Hopewell Street off East Coast Road, then Cutter Street.
🚻 Toilets and water — Deadmans Beach facilities are the headland toilet block and drinking water. Nothing on the sand.
🚿 Track-top shower — shower at the top of the reserve track. Extra showers and cafes are in Point Lookout.
🚶 Walk-in only — track from the reserve to the centre of Deadmans Beach Point Lookout. Second entry from Cylinder Headland.
♿ Not accessible — slope, sand and steps. Not a pram or wheelchair beach.

🌊 Swell days — surfing Deadmans Beach needs a wrapping easterly or south-east swell. Flat days are for walking.
☀️ September to April — warmest water. Still unpatrolled, with rips once waves are over about 1 m.
🪼 Summer wind — bluebottles on north-east days. No net and no patrol here.
