🐶 On-leash run — dog friendly Main Beach access is a lead on most of the sand. Home Beach is the off-leash strip.
🐋 Whales June to November — watch from Point Lookout headland and the Gorge Walk.

🚙 4WD Main Beach

🪪 Permit first — 4WD Main Beach requires a Minjerribah Vehicle Access Permit. Print it before you hit the sand.
🚫 No AWD, no quads, no motorbikes — those permits get confiscated.
🚪 Two entries — George Nothling Drive at Point Lookout and Alfred Martin Way / The Causeway.
⏱️ Tide rule — do not drive 4WD Main Beach 2 hours either side of high tide. The beach can close out.
🚦 Speed 60 km/h — Flinders is 40 km/h. Do not mix the two beaches.
🛞 Hard sand only — stay off the dunes and off the vegetation. 1 m clear of dune plants.

🏕️ Main Beach Camping

📍 11 designated areas — Main Beach camping starts about 17 km south of Point Lookout.
📅 Book Minjerribah Camping — tag on site. Do not freestyle on the open dune.
🚗 1 vehicle per site — that vehicle must be a 4WD with a valid permit.
🐕 Dogs allowed on-leash — max 2 per site.
🚿 No amenities on the sand — shower pass at Adder Rock. Bring water.
🔥 Cooking fires only — BYO wood. Generators 7 am to 9 pm. Follow fire bans.
🚫 Not a walk-in camp — you cannot walk from Point Lookout to Main Beach camping.

🏄 Surfing Main Beach Stradbroke Island

🌊 Wave type — exposed east-facing beach break. Surfing Main Beach Stradbroke is punchy lefts and rights over moving banks, not a reef point.
🌬️ Best window — southeast swell. West to northwest offshore cleans it up. Onshore winds flatten it and close it out.
👥 Crowd — space once you leave the SLSC car park. The northern banks still take the most boards.
🎯 Who it suits — intermediate to advanced. Not a first-lesson beach once it is overhead.
🚩 Swim flag zone is separate — keep boards out of the flagged strip at Point Lookout SLSC.
⚠️ Rips and longshore pull are normal on this coast. If you want a softer wave and flags, use Cylinder Beach.

🐶Dog Friendly Main Beach

🐶 On leash on most of the sand — dog friendly Main Beach access is a lead, including the 4WD and camping zones.
🚫 No-dog strip — dogs are prohibited between the Point Lookout SLSC access road and a point north-east of Plant 7 Road.
🏖️ Off-leash is Home Beach — Rocky Point to Rocky Headland, in front of The Straddie Hotel. Not this beach.
⛺ Camping with a dog — Main Beach camping allows 2 dogs per site, on-leash.
🚌 No dogs on the island bus — take the car from Dunwich.
⛴️ Ferry — SeaLink vehicle ferry: keep the dog inside the car. Outside the vehicle or on the passenger ferry, lead and muzzle.

🛠️ Main Beach Facilities

🚻 Northern end only — toilets, showers and the SLSC sit at Point Lookout. That is not the camp zone.
🚿 Campers — South Gorge / village amenities before you drive south.
🅿️ Walk-in parks — limited parking at George Nothling Drive and the Point Lookout streets. Do not block the beach entry.
🚙 Beach driving is the facility for the southern 20-plus km — 4WD Main Beach is how you reach the camps and the long gutters.
♿ The flagged SLSC strip is the only realistic low-mobility swim.
🚫 No cafe, no tap, no bins on the remote sand — pack in and pack out.

🗺️ Getting There

🚗 Village and flags — vehicle ferry Cleveland to Dunwich, sealed road to Point Lookout, park and walk onto the northern end of Main Beach Stradbroke Island.
🚙 4WD Main Beach — same ferry, then George Nothling Drive or Alfred Martin Way / The Causeway. Permit printed before the sand.
🚌 Bus — passenger ferry to Dunwich, Stradbroke Bus Service to Point Lookout. That gets you to the SLSC end only.
🚫 Do not use Eighteen Mile Swamp as the public beach entry line. The legal 4WD entries are George Nothling Drive and The Causeway.

💡 Info correct at time of writing — check Redland City Council, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, and Surf Life Saving Queensland for current patrol times, tide charts, and access updates.

⏱️ Tide first — if you are late on a rising tide, 4WD Main Beach will close you in.
📍 17 km south — Main Beach camping is not “just down from the club”. Count the numbered tracks.
🐶 Read the SLSC signs — dog friendly Main Beach does not include the sand in front of the club.
🚩 Swim at the flags — then drive. Do not mix a session in the unpatrolled gutters with kids.
📶 No phone in the camp zones — download maps and tide times before you leave Adder Rock.
