🏝️ Dunk Island day trips — Regular ferry from Clump Point jetty
🏊 Swimming — Inside the stinger nets during stinger season

🏊 Swim Safety Stinger Nets and Patrols

🪼 Stinger Season — November to May. Swim in the net or wear a full stinger suit.
🥅 What the Net Stops — The mesh is built for large box jellyfish. It does not reliably stop Irukandji. Wear a full stinger suit if you leave the enclosure.
🚩 Patrols — Flags and lifeguards in the Christmas and Easter school holidays, 9am to 5pm.
📍 South Mission Net — A separate net and patrol sit at South Mission Beach. Use that page for that enclosure
🚫 No Dogs in the Net — Dogs stay on the signed sand only. Not in the enclosure.
🧴 Sting — Call 000 and flood the site with vinegar. Do not rub it.

🐦 Mission Beach Cassowary

🦩 Southern Cassowaries — Regular sightings in the rainforest and around the edges of the village
⚠️ Cassowary safety — Never feed them, keep your distance, and keep dogs under control
🐢 Marine life — Turtles and reef fish common on day trips to Dunk Island and the reef
🐦 Tropical birds — Ulysses butterflies and a wide range of rainforest species are frequently seen

🐶 Mission Beach Dog Friendly

🐕 Default Rule — Cassowary Coast dogs are on-leash in public unless you are inside a signed off-leash area.
📍 Mission Beach Village Off-Leash — Signed foreshore between Miter Street and Pacific Parade, Esplanade access. This is the Mission Beach dog friendly stretch on this page.
📍 South Mission Off-Leash — Signed sand from the Kennedy Esplanade boat ramp north to the beach access about 100 m north of Jackey Jackey Street. Cover the full detail on the South Mission page.
🚫 Stinger Nets and Bathing Reserves — Dogs are prohibited inside the nets and gazetted bathing reserves. . Recall must be instant.
🐊 Creek Mouths — Keep dogs out of creeks and still water. This is crocodile country.

🏕️ Mission Beach Camping and Caravan Park — 53 Porter Promenade. Beachfront Mission Beach camping with powered and unpowered sites, new amenities, and on-leash dogs after a pet application.
🚫 No Free Beach Camping — Do not pitch on the sand or overnight in foreshore car parks.
🅿️ Dump Point — Public dump point next to the park at 53 Porter Promenade.
🔗 Bingil Bay Campground — Small Traditional Owner camp behind Bingil Bay sand. That product belongs on the Bingil Bay page, not as a second Mission Beach camping park.
🔥 No Beach Fires — The beachfront park bans fires on sites and on the sand.

☀️ May to October — Dry season with sunny skies, lower humidity and the most comfortable conditions
🌧️ November to May — Warmer and wetter with marine stingers present — swim only inside the stinger nets
🏊‍♂️ Patrolled swimming — Lifeguards monitor the main netted areas during peak season

🗺️ Mission Beach Parking & Getting There

🚗 Sealed road access via the Bruce Highway (approx 140 km south of Cairns)
📍 Easy drive from Innisfail, Tully and Kurrimine Beach
🅿️ Village Parking — Mission Beach parking is the Porter Promenade and Esplanade street parks beside the shops, visitor centre and beach accesses.
🅿️ Clump Point — Separate car park at the jetty and boat ramp for Dunk Island boats and trailers. Fills early on ferry mornings. Use the village parks if you are only walking the sand.
♿ Access — Sealed paths and beach accesses from the Esplanade. This is not a 4WD beach.

💡 Local Tips

🐦 Drive Slow — Mission Beach cassowary birds use the village roads. Slow down at dawn and dusk.
🪼 Net First — November to May, swim in the village enclosure. Do not treat the open beach as a snorkel spot.
☕ Porter Promenade — The Shack, Bite Me Café and the Tavern are the easy foreshore food stop after a swim.
🚶 Ulysses Link — Walk or ride the foreshore path south to Wongaling and South Mission. Best in the cool morning.
🅿️ Park in Town — Use Mission Beach parking on Porter Promenade. Keep Clump Point for the jetty and trailers.
