🏊 Swimming — Swim between the red and yellow flags from September to May. Stay off the Wild Cattle Creek mouth on a falling tide.
🚶 Beach and Esplanade Walks — Walk the 0.6 km of sand or the paths through Millennium Esplanade for playgrounds, picnic shelters and ocean views.
🎣 Fishing — Cast from the beach away from swimmers, or use the Boyne River and Wild Cattle Creek ramps for a boat session.
🛶 Calm-Water Sessions — Paddleboard or kayak in quieter conditions. Keep clear of the flagged swim zone and the creek mouth.

🛝 Playgrounds and BBQs — Playgrounds, picnic shelters and BBQs are on Millennium Esplanade, a few steps off the sand.
🏄 Surf club access — Tannum Sands SLSC sits on this strip. Keep surfing Tannum Sands inside the flagged area from September to May.
🚫 Dogs — Dogs are prohibited on Tannum Sands Main Beach and on Millennium Esplanade, including the footpaths. Off-leash is Canoe Point Foreshore, Cashin Park and Sandpiper Park, not this beach.

🏄 Surfing Tannum Sands

🌊 Wave Size — Average swell is about 0.5 m. A strong south-easterly can push it toward 1 m. This is a learner and short-session wave, not a destination break.
🕐 Best Tide — Mid tide is the usual window. At high tide the surf zone widens south of the clubhouse.
🚩 Where to Surf — Keep surfing Tannum Sands near the flagged area when patrols are on, September to May.
🪨 Hazards — Rock flats show at low tide through the centre and northern sand. A sweep often runs along the beach. Stay off the Wild Cattle Creek mouth on a falling tide.

🐶 Dog-Friendly Information

🚫 Main Beach Prohibited — Dogs are not allowed on the Tannum Sands Main Beach bathing reserve and foreshore up to Lot 41 on Plan CTN1860, The Oaks Road.
🚫 Millennium Esplanade Prohibited — Dogs are not allowed on Millennium Esplanade, including the footpaths.
🟢 Canoe Point Off-Leash — Off-leash sand is Canoe Point Foreshore from the Boyne River mouth to the beach aligned with Oaks Road.
🌳 Local Off-Leash Parks — Cashin Park on The Oaks Road and Sandpiper Park on Parkside Street are the signed park options.

🐬 Wildlife at Tannum Sands Gladstone

🐬 Offshore — Dolphins are seen off this coast. Humpbacks pass the Gladstone region in winter.
🐦 Parkland Birds — Rainbow lorikeets, cockatoos and kookaburras use the foreshore trees.
⚠️ Swim Hazards — Beachsafe lists bluebottles, marine stingers, submerged objects and strong currents. There is no stinger net here. Wear a stinger suit in the warmer months if you leave the flags.

Pandanus at the club serves coffee and snacks on posted days. Clubhouse stairs limit wheelchair access.

Camping at Tannum Sands

🏕️ Discovery Parks Tannum Sands — Paid park on Millennium Esplanade, a short walk from the flags. Powered and unpowered sites, cabins, camp kitchen, pool and playground.
🚫 No Free Sand Camping — There is no free camping on the main beach.
🐕 Park Pets — Some sites take dogs. That is a park rule only. It is not permission to take the dog onto the main beach or Millennium Esplanade.
🚙 4WD — No vehicles on this beach. The nearby permit beach is Lilley’s Beach at Boyne Island.

🗺️ Tannum Sands Parking and Getting There

🚗 Drive — About 25 minutes south of Gladstone CBD via Gladstone–Benaraby Road and the John Oxley Bridge. Follow signs to Ocean Street or Millennium Esplanade.
🚍 Bus — CDC Gladstone Route 510 runs Gladstone to Tannum Sands. Closest useful drop is toward Tannum Sands Road, then a short walk to the esplanade.
🅿️ Tannum Sands Parking — Free bays along Millennium Esplanade, plus the surf club, playground and picnic pockets. Read signs on market and event days.
