Farnborough Beach Yeppoon is the 17 km northern Capricorn Coast stretch with sealed access near town, Farnborough Beach 4WD from the Hinz Avenue ramp, and a weekday Farnborough Beach dog friendly zone from the boat ramp south to Barwells Creek.

🏖️Things to Do at Farnborough Beach Yeppoon

🚙 4WD Driving — Drop on at Hinz Avenue and travel north only toward Sandy Point. Check tide times and the live sign.
🚶 Beach Walks — Long sunrise and sunset sand with Keppel Island views. Southern accesses are the easy 2WD walks.
🎣 Fishing — Quieter gutters along the northern run and the Corio Bay mouth at Sandy Point.
🏄 Surfing — Beach breaks on the Big Dune Surfing Reserve. Unpatrolled. Read the water.
📸 Photography — Wide open dune and island views, best in afternoon light.

🚙Farnborough Beach 4WD Rules

🚙 Lawful entry — Hinz Avenue at Farnborough Beach Bangalee. Travel north only.
🚫 South is not a drive beach — Farnborough Road and Rotary Park are sealed-access sand. Vehicles there are for boat launch or retrieve only, about 50 m either side of a ramp.
📋 No general permit — This is the signed Livingstone exception. Other Capricorn Coast beaches are not 4WD unless a sign says so. 🌙 Hours — Follow the live sign at the Bangalee ramp. Do not assume night driving is allowed.
🐢 Drive wet sand — Nesting season is November to March. Stay below the high-tide mark. Do not cut dunes or vegetation.

🐶  Farnborough Beach Dog Friendly Rules

🐕 Weekday named zone — Off-leash Monday to Friday excluding public holidays from the Bangalee boat ramp south to Barwells Creek. Access via Hinz Avenue.
🕗 Shire default everywhere else — On-leash on the sand, plus off-leash before 8am and after 4pm unless a sign says otherwise.
🚫 Not the whole 17 km — Weekends and public holidays the named strip reverts to the shire default. This is not a 24-hour off-leash beach.
📍 Sandy Point and Byfield — Signs still treat Sandy Point Beach and beaches beside Byfield National Park as no-dog or restricted. Read the sign at the northern end.
🏞️ Fenced park — Olive Dorey Park at Lammermoor is the fenced off-leash park, not this sand.

🧭Farnborough Beach Bangalee

🚙 The working access — Hinz Avenue is the 4WD entry, the boat ramp, and the start of the weekday dog zone.
🅿️ Parking — Limited. No toilets, no BBQ and no playground on the ramp apron.
🧭 Direction — Once on the sand, travel north only. Do not drive south toward Rotary Park.
🚤 Boats — Use the ramp to launch and retrieve. Do not treat the whole bathing reserve as a car park.

Swimming, Surfing and Fishing

🏊 Swim — Unpatrolled. Beachsafe lists Sandy Point-Farnborough at hazard 2/10. Best at high tide on the southern 2WD accesses. No stinger nets.
🏄 Surf — Beach break on the Big Dune Surfing Reserve. Not a flagged surf club beach.
🎣 Fish — Northern gutters and Sandy Point / Corio Bay. Take your rubbish.
⚠️ Hazards — Marine stingers November to May. Bluebottles any warm month. Follow crocodile and wildlife signs if they are up.

🌊Sandy Point and Corio Bay

🌊 Northern end — Sandy Point is the spit at the Corio Bay mouth and the usual turnaround for Farnborough Beach 4WD.
👨‍👩‍ Shallows — Wide low-tide flats. Still unpatrolled. Not a flagged family swim.
🚫 Dogs — Do not assume the weekday Bangalee-to-Barwells rule continues to Sandy Point. Follow the sign.
🌲 Byfield — Byfield National Park is a separate destination. Do not drive this beach as if it is a park access road.

🐢Turtle Nesting at Farnborough Beach Yeppoon

🐢 Season — November to March. Hatchlings follow later in that window.
🚙 4WD — Wet sand only. Do not drive over tracks or nests.
🐕 Dogs — Keep dogs under control after dark in nesting season.
🔦 Lights — No fires on the sand. Keep torch light off the waterline if turtles are moving.

🛠️Facilities & Accessibility

🚻 Rotary Park — Toilets, BBQs, picnic tables, playground and parking at the southern end. Extra toilets near access 9 on Farnborough Road.
🅿️ Bangalee — Limited parking only. No amenities on the ramp.
🚿 No surf club here — Unpatrolled. Closest flagged swim is Yeppoon Main Beach, not this sand.
♿ All-abilities — Official Livingstone beach mats and all-abilities accesses are Yeppoon Main Beach, Emu Park Main Beach and Keppel Sands, not Bangalee.

🌤️Best Time to Visit Farnborough Beach

🌞 April to October — Drier, milder days for walks and 4WD.
🌊 November to May — Stinger season. No nets on this beach.
🐢 November to March — Turtle nesting. Drive wet sand and watch at night only from a distance.

🗺️Getting to Farnborough Beach Yeppoon

🚗 South sand — Farnborough Road, a few minutes north of central Yeppoon. 2WD to Rotary Park and the signed walk accesses.
🚙 4WD and dog zone — Hinz Avenue to Farnborough Beach Bangalee.
🏝️ Not the ferry — Rosslyn Bay Marina and the Keppel boats sit further south. Do not send island traffic through Bangalee.
🚌 Bus — Young’s Bus Service runs Rockhampton to Yeppoon with stops near Farnborough Road. It does not drop you on the 4WD sand.

🌴 Use the right access — Walkers and families use Farnborough Road and Rotary Park. 4WD and the weekday dog zone use Hinz Avenue.
☕ Coffee after the sand — The Alley, Lure Living and Two Sisters Coffee Bar are in Yeppoon, minutes from the southern accesses.
🌅 Light — Afternoon shade and Keppel views are better than midday glare on the long open sand.
🐬 Wildlife — Dolphins year-round. Whales in winter offshore. Turtles November to March. Stay off nests.
🚫 Do not confuse the beaches — Yeppoon Surf Life Saving Club patrols Yeppoon Main Beach. Farnborough Beach is unpatrolled.
