Cooee Bay is a small, sheltered beach just south of Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast. Framed by rocky headlands, it offers calm conditions, golden sand and a relaxed local atmosphere ideal for swimming, picnics and quiet coastal walks.

🏝️Why Visit Cooee Bay Yeppoon

A short, quiet bay with headlands at both ends, grass and a playground behind the sand, and Yeppoon a few minutes north. Use this beach for a calm swim and rock pools. Use Yeppoon Lagoon if you want a supervised pool.

👙Things to Do at Cooee Bay

🏊 Swim — usually small waves, rips uncommon. Unpatrolled. Best near high tide.
🪨 Rock pools — both headlands at low tide. Wave Point and Wreck Point.
🧺 Picnic — Daniel Park grass, BBQs and shade behind the beach.
🛝 Playground — Daniel Park, next to the car park.
🚶 Walk — the sand between the two points, or continue toward Lammermoor on the Scenic Highway path.
🌅 Wreck Point lookout — short climb at the southern end for Keppel Bay views.

🐶  Dog Friendly Cooee Bay

🐕 On-leash — all day on the sand, paths and park.
🕖 Off-leash — before 8am and after 4pm unless a sign says otherwise. Livingstone Shire default.
🌳 Fenced park — Olive Dorey Park at Lammermoor, not this beach.
🚫 Yeppoon Lagoon — no dogs in the lagoon precinct.
🧹 Clean up — bags and bins are usually at the access. Read the sign on the day.

🏊 Yeppoon Lagoon

🏊 Different beach — 2500 m² council lagoon on Yeppoon Main Beach. Lifeguards in posted hours.
🐕Dogs banned inside the precinct. Use it when you want a pool, not as Cooee Bay facilities.
🅿️ Parking — paid at Lagoon Place and the Anzac Parade south car park. That is not Daniel Park.

🚻 Daniel Park — toilets, BBQs, picnic tables, playground, grass.
🚫 No patrol — no surf club on this beach. Yeppoon SLSC is on Yeppoon Main Beach.
🚿 Showers — use the park amenities, not a flagged patrol tower.

🌤️Best Time to Visit Cooee Bay

☀️ April to October — drier and easier for picnics and walks.
🪼 November to May — stinger season. No stinger net here.
🌊 Tide — swim near high tide. Rock pools at low tide.

🗺️ Cooee Bay Parking & Getting There

🚗 Drive — about 3 km south of Yeppoon on the Scenic Highway, then Matthew Flinders Drive. About 40 to 45 minutes from Rockhampton.
🚌 Bus — Young’s Bus Service runs Rockhampton to Yeppoon. The last hop to Cooee Bay is a short drive or walk.
🅿️ Cooee Bay parking — Daniel Park off Matthew Flinders Drive is the main car park and beach access. Extra bays sit beside the path down to the sand. 🪧 Signs — some bays have time limits. Yeppoon Lagoon parking is paid and is not this car park.
♿ Access — sealed park and path. Soft sand and rocks are not a full wheelchair beach.
🚙 4WD — none. Sealed suburban roads only. No beach driving.

💡 Local Tips

🪨 Low tide — the interesting part of this bay is the rock platforms, not a long surf break.
🛒 Food — there is no dining strip on the sand. Cafes sit in Yeppoon and along the Scenic Highway.
🚶 Do not walk the rocks in shoes-off swell — both points get slippery.
🔗 Pair it — Cooee Bay for quiet sand, Yeppoon Lagoon for the family pool, Rosslyn Bay for the island boat.
