Lady Elliot Island is the southernmost coral cay on the Great Barrier Reef and the reason people fly out of Bundaberg for world-class Lady Elliot Island snorkelling, Lady Elliot Island diving and Lady Elliot Island manta rays. The only stay on the cay is the Lady Elliot Island eco resort, reached by scenic flight only.

Lady Elliot Island is the southernmost coral cay on the Great Barrier Reef, about 80 km north-east of Bundaberg, inside a highly protected Green Zone. People fly here for the reef, the manta cleaning stations and the only stay on the cay. Access for normal visitors is scenic flight only. There is no regular ferry, no 4WD and no free camping.

🤿 Snorkelling — beach-entry trails plus glass-bottom boat and guided snorkel tours.

✈️ Day trip — Bundaberg departs about 8:40am and leaves the island at 4:00pm, about 7 hours on the cay. Hervey Bay is the other main day port.

The best time to visit is April to November, when conditions are ideal for diving and snorkelling.

🗺️ Getting There

✈️ Flights only — Seair scenic flights land on the grass airstrip from Bundaberg (about 30 minutes), Hervey Bay (about 40 minutes), Brisbane Redcliffe and Gold Coast Coolangatta.
🚫 No ferry — there is no regular passenger boat and no public wharf. Do not plan a Bundaberg boat run.
