Catseye Beach Hamilton Island is the main Hamilton Island beach, a curved resort bay for Catseye Beach swimming at high tide. Catseye Beach snorkelling and Catseye Beach watersports run from the Beach Sports hut on the sand.
🏝️Why Visit Catseye Beach Hamilton Island?
Catseye Beach Hamilton Island is the island’s main resort beach, a short walk from the hotels, the main pool and Resort Centre dining. Swim at high tide when the bay fills, use the Beach Sports hut for snorkel gear, kayaks and paddleboards, and walk the sand flats at low tide. It is unpatrolled, dogs are not allowed, and the better ocean window is high tide.
🤿 Things to Do at Catseye Beach Hamilton Island
🏊 High-tide swim — Calm bay in front of the resorts. Best when the tide is in. Unpatrolled.
🤿 Shore snorkel — Fringing reef off the sand. Better on a falling or low tide when the flats and coral are easier to reach. Turtles and fish are often in the shallows.
🛶 Watersports hut — Kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, catamarans and snorkel gear from Hamilton Island Beach Sports, about 8:00am to 4:30pm daily. 🔑 Guest gear — Complimentary non-motorised gear for guests at qualia, Beach Club, The Sundays, Reef View Hotel, Palm Bungalows and Hamilton Island Holiday Homes. Show your room key. Everyone else hires.
🍽️ Beachfront dining — Beach Club and Resort Centre restaurants sit behind the sand.
🏄 Hamilton Island Ocean Rafting
Fast raft from Hamilton Island to Whitehaven Beach, Hill Inlet lookout and a reef snorkel.
One-hour flight over Whitehaven Beach, Hill Inlet and Heart Reef.
🤿Catseye Beach Snorkelling
🤿 Shore reef — Catseye Beach snorkelling is off the sand on the fringing reef, not an outer-reef boat.
🐢 What you see — Fish in the shallows. Turtles and rays are common over the sand and coral.
🌊 Best tide — Go as the tide drops. High tide is for swimming. Low tide opens the flats and the closer reef.
🛡️ November to May — Wear a stinger suit from Beach Sports. The official island advice is a suit, not flags.
🔑 Gear — Mask, snorkel and fins from the Beach Sports hut. Listed hotel and holiday-home guests use a room key. Everyone else hires.
🚶 Stay with others — This beach is unpatrolled. Do not snorkel alone or at dusk.

🛶 Catseye Beach Watersports
🛶 Beach Sports hut — Catseye Beach watersports run from Hamilton Island Beach Sports on the sand, about 8:00am to 4:30pm daily.
🚣 What you can take out — Kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, catamarans and snorkel gear.
🔑 Complimentary gear — Guests at qualia, Beach Club, The Sundays, Reef View Hotel, Palm Bungalows and Hamilton Island Holiday Homes show a room key. All other visitors hire.
🌊 High tide — Kayak, paddleboard and catamaran when the bay is full.
🪨 Low tide — Hut shifts to snorkel and sand-flat walks. Do not drag a kayak over dry reef.
🏊Catseye Beach Swimming
🏊 High tide only — Catseye Beach swimming is a real swim when the tide is in. At low tide the water pulls back across the flats. 🚩 Unpatrolled — Official Hamilton Island rule: beaches and pools are not lifeguard patrolled. Swim with others. 🛡️ November to May — Marine stingers including Irukandji. Wear a stinger suit from Beach Sports, or use the main resort pool. 👶 Families — High tide against the resort beach is the calm window. Low tide is walking water, not a deep swim. 🏊 Pool backup — The main resort pool behind the bay is the stinger-free swim when the tide is out or you want a flagged-style family dip. It is still unpatrolled.
🛠️ Facilities & Accessibility
🛋️ Lounges and hammocks — On the sand in front of the resorts.

🌞 Best Time to Visit Catseye Beach Hamilton Island
☀️ May to October — Drier, milder days. Best stretch for an open-water swim.
🛡️ November to May — Marine stingers including Irukandji. Wear a stinger suit from Beach Sports, or use the resort pools.
🌊 Tide — Swim at high tide. Snorkel and walk the flats as the tide drops. Low tide leaves a long shallow run-off.

💡 Local Tips

🌊 Check the tide before you walk down — A high-tide swim and a low-tide snorkel are two different visits.
🛡️ Suit, not a net story — Official island advice is a stinger suit. Do not wait for flags.
🏊 Pool backup — The main resort pool is the reliable family swim when the tide is out.
🐢 Shuffle in the shallows — Rays sit on the sand flats.
