Palm Cove is a palm-lined, patrolled stretch of Palm Cove Cairns 25 minutes north of the city, with a seasonal stinger net, the Palm Cove jetty and luxury Palm Cove resorts along Williams Esplanade. The signed northern sand is dog friendly Palm Cove, and the village links easily with Clifton Beach, Ellis Beach and Great Barrier Reef day trips from Cairns.

Palm Cove Cairns is the polished northern-beaches village 27 km north of the city — a palm-lined, patrolled foreshore with calm water, a seasonal stinger net and luxury Palm Cove resorts along Williams Esplanade. Couples, families and reef-trip travellers use it as the easy beach base: walk the paperbarks, swim inside the flags, eat on the sand, then look out to Double Island from the Palm Cove jetty.

🛶 Kayak and SUP — Paddle around Double Island from the beach. The island itself is closed for redevelopment. Do not plan a landing.

🧘‍♀️ Spa and pools — Day spas and resort pools along the esplanade.
🌅 Sunrise — Best view back over the palms is from the end of the jetty.

🏊 Palm Cove Swimming

🏊 Patrolled beach — Lifeguards 7 days, typically 9am to 5pm.
🛟 Stinger net — In place November to May. Swim inside the net and between the red and yellow flags.
🌊 Calm water — Usually small waves. Best family swim on this stretch.
🚫 Outside the net — Do not swim outside the enclosure in stinger season.
🐊 Crocwise — Saltwater crocodiles live in this region year-round. The net is not a crocodile barrier. Stay off the waterline at dawn, dusk and night.
👕 Stinger suit — Wear one in season. Smaller Irukandji can still enter the net.

🎣Palm Cove Jetty

🎣 Palm Cove jetty — Short fishing jetty at the northern end of the sand. Free to walk. Best sunrise view back over the village.
🐟 Fishing — Locals fish here year-round for mackerel, grunter, whiting and stripey. It is a fishing platform, not a swim spot.
🚫 No dogs on the deck — Dogs, bikes and vehicles are prohibited on the jetty structure.
🐕 Off-leash sand beside it — The signed dog friendly Palm Cove strip sits on the beach between the jetty and the northern rocks, not on the boards.
🐊 Waterline — Keep children and dogs back from the edge at dawn, dusk and night.
♿ Access — Walk to the jetty from Williams Esplanade. No diving or jumping.

🚻 Toilets and showers — Public toilets and freshwater showers on the foreshore.
🍖 BBQs and picnic tables — Under the melaleucas along the esplanade.
🛝 Playground — Children’s play area near the foreshore.
🅿️ Street parking — Williams Esplanade bays. Extra near the jetty, tavern and resort frontage. Fills early on weekends. Some bays are timed.
♿ Access — Wheelchair-friendly foreshore paths.
🚶 Sealed access only — No beach driving.

🐶 Dog Friendly Rules

🐕 Official off-leash sand — Between the Palm Cove jetty and the rocks on the northern side. This is the signed dog friendly Palm Cove beach zone.
🏞️ Fenced park — Silver Crescent Park is the enclosed off-leash park, not the swim beach.
🦮 On-leash everywhere else — Rest of the sand and all of Williams Esplanade.
🚫 Stinger net — Dogs prohibited inside the net and on the sand directly in front of it.
🚫 Jetty deck — Dogs are prohibited on the Palm Cove jetty structure.
📍 Not Clifton’s zone — The Upolo Esplanade stretch that finishes 150 m south of Veivers Road is a Clifton Beach listing. Keep that walk on the Clifton page.

🏕️ Camping Near Palm Cove

🚫 No free beach camping — No unstructured sand camping on this foreshore.
🏕️ NRMA Palm Cove Holiday Park — Powered and unpowered sites at 149 Williams Esplanade, opposite the sand. Pets on sites with park approval, on-leash in the park, max 2 per site.
🏨 Village stays — Palm Cove resorts and apartments dominate the esplanade. No 4WD camping product here.

🗺️ Palm Cove Parking and Getting There

🚗 Drive — 25 to 30 minutes north of Cairns CBD on the Captain Cook Highway. Sealed the whole way. Village sits between Clifton Beach and Ellis Beach. Follow Williams Esplanade to the sand, cafes and jetty.
🚌 Bus — Sunbus Route 110 between Cairns City and the village, with stops on Williams Esplanade and Palm Cove Boulevard.
🅿️ Parking — Free and timed bays on Williams Esplanade, plus extra near the jetty, Palm Cove Tavern and the resorts. Market days use overflow at Triton Street. Read every sign.
🚗 No 4WD — Fully sealed roads only. Zero beach driving.
💡 Check before you go — Cairns Regional Council for parking. Translink for the latest bus times.

🌴 Village pace — This is the dressed-up northern beach. Resorts, paperbarks and cafes sit on the same strip as the sand.
🌅 Sunrise first — Walk the jetty at first light, then swim when the flags are up.
🛟 Net in season — November to May, flags plus net. Talk to the lifeguard if the water looks off.
🐊 Crocwise always — Swim inside the enclosure. Do not linger at creek mouths or the waterline at dawn or dusk.
🍹 Sunset dining — Eat on Williams Esplanade facing the water. Book Nu Nu and the busier rooms in dry season.
