🐕 Bribie Island – Dog-Friendly Beaches
Bribie Island has some of the best dog-friendly options near Brisbane, managed by the City of Moreton Bay. The standout is a long off-leash stretch on the ocean side. The calmer Pumicestone Passage side (western beaches) generally allows on-leash access or has restrictions. Dogs are prohibited in the national park sections and some foreshore areas—always check signs for exact boundaries.
- Banksia Beach: Partial—dogs allowed on-leash along the foreshore in public areas (calm Passage side). No designated off-leash beach section here.
- Bongaree: Partial—dogs allowed on-leash along much of the foreshore/esplanade. Some sections near the bridge prohibit dogs.
- Ocean Beach: This refers to the main eastern surf beach (often overlapping with Woorim). The southern section connects to the off-leash area (see Woorim below).
- Red Beach: Yes, highly dog-friendly. The main stretch (accessed via Tully Street, Bongaree) is part of the large off-leash area, with calmer waters. A small initial section (~700m east from Red Beach access) is on-leash only, and areas closer to the bridge prohibit dogs.
- Sylvan Beach: Yes, dog-friendly. On-leash along the esplanade and beach in Bellara (e.g., between Boronia Drive and Sylvan Beach Esplanade/Marina Boulevard).
- Woorim: Yes, one of the top dog beaches in Queensland. Large 24-hour off-leash section at Woorim Beach South (from beach access 19 at Lowry Street, heading south ~4.2km toward Red Beach/Woody Bay). This long golden sand stretch is popular for off-leash runs and swims. Northern parts of Woorim Beach are on-leash (e.g., from North Street north to 4WD access) or prohibited in patrolled/central areas.
Important notes: The ~4+ km off-leash zone (Woorim South to Red Beach) is often called “Bribie Island Dog Beach” and is excellent for long walks/swims. Dogs must be under effective control even off-leash, and stay off dunes. No dogs in Bribie Island National Park areas. Rules are current as of late 2025 with no major changes noted for Bribie. Always check current signage, maps, or the City of Moreton Bay website (moretonbay.qld.gov.au/Services/Sport-Recreation/Dog-Parks-and-Beaches) for precise zones—pick up after your dog and keep them controlled.
